Government to Finance State-owned Company by 50 million GEL

Tbilisi (GBC) – The Government of Georgia has decided to allocate 50 million GEL to state-owned company Akura as part of the 2020 vintage.

The allocated funds will be spent on purchasing and processing grapes amid the 2020 vintage in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions.

Objective of the Government is that grapes harvest be fully sold out. Furthermore, under the Georgian Government’s decision, winemaking and spirits distilling companies will receive 30-Tetri subsidies for every 1 kilogram of grapes purchased. However, subsidies will be issued if manufacturers process grapes of more than 1,000 tons, namely Rkatsiteli or Kakhuri Mtsvane grapes.

Under the Government’s decision winegrowers will receive at least 80 Tetri for 1 kilogram of Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane.

The Government expects the grapes harvest to exceed 300,000 tons in 2020.
